CYANOTYPE ART GREETING CARD - By Penny Gray
Cyanotype art greeting cards - blank inside.
Original cyanotype artwork, printed by the sun onto paper. These greeting cards are then reprinted by Black Rainbow using using recycled paper and non-toxic inks on a solar powered printing press.
Cyanotype was developed in the mid 1800s and is one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. Penny uses this camera-less technique, laying an object or a negative on a base material coated with a solution of iron salts, exposing it to the sun and washing it with water to create these stunning white and Prussian blue photograms.
Through her art Penny aims to promote the beauty and benefits of local plant species and encourage people to plant local.
Did you know? The term ‘blueprint’ comes from the use of cyanotypes.
“I have been a maker all my life particularly with fabric. I have explored many aspects of making marks on fabric and to be able to explore nature in detail through Cyanotype has fast become a passion, on many mediums. Cyanotype is an alternative form of photography that dates back to the early 1800's. It is a form of contact printing. I love watching the blue form during the washing process and deepen through oxidation. I find it magical.” - Penny Gray
