“My core background is in Music and Art. They became intertwined early in high school and have continued to reflect, inspire, and evolve alongside one another. Painting, drawing, and songwriting started me on this path. I spent time as a glassblowing assistant, developing new skills, and in a pivotal 2010, I began building my first guitars. Over the years, I have accumulated tools, machines, knowledge, and an ever-growing selection of timbers all of which serve as my medium. While musical instruments drive my passion, being a maker allows my creativity to expand into complementary projects.” - Sam Colvin Thomas, Pardalote Workshop

Folding stools - Eucalyptus Obliqua / Eucalyptus Fastigata / Eucalyptus sideroxylon

The timber used in these folding stools is sourced from packs of reject decking and flooring offcuts that some hardwood mills offer. Rather than being discarded or burned, the boards are re-dressed, and splits and cracks cut away, allowing works like this to be produced. This batch of folding stools also includes strips of a contrasting timber, Red Ironbark.

The tops measure 340 × 340 mm and stools stand 470 mm tall.

Folding Instructions:
To fold, hold either side of the top boards, slide them out horizontally until the legs close, then lever the tops down. One dowel is extended to serve as a carry handle. Be cautious to keep fingers clear of joints, and note that standing on the stool is not recommended.

All dowels are hardwood, with fibre washers set between each joint to minimise rubbing during folding. A stainless steel screw is used on each dowel for easy disassembly, making repairs or refinishing simple—ensuring this piece of furniture provides many years of service.

The finish used is Whittle’s Hardwax Oil, making touch-ups or refreshes as easy as a simple wipe-on, wipe-off application

Small hardwood table - Eucalyptus Obliqua / Eucalyptus Fastigata / Eucalyptus sideroxylon

The timber used for the top of this small table is sourced from packs of reject decking and flooring offcuts that some hardwood mills offer. Rather than being discarded or burned, the boards are re-dressed, with splits and cracks removed, allowing pieces like this to be created. This table features edge strips of contrasting Red Ironbark, while the legs are crafted from Bird’s-eye Eucalypt.

It stands 735 mm tall, with a top measuring 660 × 700 mm.

The finish used is Whittle’s Hardwax Oil, making touch-ups or refreshes as simple as a wipe-on, wipe-off application.
