Spherical Residences for the Pison Spinolae #2, Shibuichi
“These sculptural forms, born from my time on FLOAT3909 as part of the Observatorium project, are intended as nesting sites for the Pison Spinolae mud wasp. Constructed using Shibiuichi, a traditional Japanese alloy of 75% recycled copper refrigeration pipes and 25% recycled silver jewellery, they represent a fusion of repurposed materials and natural purpose.” - Jill Hermans
Jill Hermans, holding a Fine Arts Honours degree from Monash University (2009), resides in Clifton Creek, East Gippsland, living sustainably off-grid. Her artistic practice is driven by a fascination with the transformative power of materials and process, particularly the reactions between molten metals, oxides, enamel, and flame. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
